Get ready to relive the glory days! The iconic Firefight experience is storming back into Halo Infinite, bringing with it the adrenaline-fueled King of the Hill variant. Mark your calendars for March 11, because that's when Operation: Blue Team kicks off, unleashing the PvE mayhem upon us all.
Firefight first exploded onto the scene in 2009 with Halo 3: ODST. The premise was simple: you and up to three comrades would band together, putting your skills to the ultimate test as you fought to survive wave after wave of relentless Covenant attacks.
Over the years, Firefight has morphed and evolved in fascinating ways:
But now, it's time to return to the roots, to the pure, unadulterated essence of Firefight that we all know and love.
The mission is clear: survival. You and your squad of four must stand against endless waves of enemies. But how exactly is "Classic" different from King of the Hill?
In KOTH, victory or defeat is obvious: were you in the hill at the end of the round, or were you eliminated? Classic Firefight features:
Bonus rounds are mini-breaks between sets. All Skulls are on, enemies are on Easy mode, no lives are lost, and the stakes are low. Speaking of stakes...
At the start of each match, you're granted a pool of 7 lives, shared among your team.
Think of lives as your team's collective lifeline. Waste them carelessly, and you'll be staring at the Post-Game Carnage Report sooner than you think. Play smart, stay alive, and preserve those precious lives for the challenges that lie ahead.
The good news? There are ways to replenish your life pool:
Halo Infinite introduces a game-changing mechanic: the ability to end your match at the end of a set.
Before the next round begins, an extraction zone appears, beckoning you to "Complete the mission." If at least two of you hop into the zone, you're extracted, and the match ends. Hesitate, and you're committed to the next set, where you'll either:
Each set brings a new twist, with Skulls activating on rounds two and three, adding layers of complexity and challenge. Low on ammo? Don't panic! You'll get a resupply between each round.
Prepare to fight across these battlegrounds:
Many a Vidmaster: Endure achievement was earned within these hallowed halls on the Road to Recon.
We've got Jackals in the Courtyard!
Only you can prevent forest fires.
Do you reckon anyone's home?
Perhaps the most quintessential map from Halo 3: ODST returns so secure those zones.
The battle awaits! How long you survive depends on your skill, your teamwork, and your unwavering determination. So, lock and load, Spartan, and prepare for the ultimate Firefight challenge!
