iPhone 18 Pro to Debut Apple's C2 Modem in 2026

Mark Gurman reports that Apple's next-gen C2 modem is slated for the iPhone 18 Pro in 2026, with the C3 following in 2027. Apple aims to surpass Qualcomm's modem tech by then, enhancing 5G capabilities, including mmWave support.

Apple's highly anticipated C2 modem is on track to power the iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This move signals Apple's continued push to reduce reliance on Qualcomm and enhance its device capabilities.

In his Power On newsletter, Gurman revealed that Apple is actively testing both the C2 modem and its successor, the C3, which is projected to arrive in 2027. Apple's ambition is clear: to "outdo Qualcomm's modem capabilities" within the next few years. This ambition aligns with earlier reports of Apple's C2 modem testing.

The journey began with the C1 modem, which debuted in the iPhone 16e just last week. Apple is touting the C1 as its most power-efficient iPhone modem to date, which contributes to the device's extended battery life compared to other 6.1-inch iPhones, including the standard iPhone 16.

"Apple aims to surpass Qualcomm's modem capabilities by 2027."

Gurman had previously indicated that Apple's second-generation 5G modem would first appear in the iPhone 18 lineup in 2026 and then in iPad Pro models by 2027. A key upgrade will be the inclusion of support for the ultra-fast 5G standard known as mmWave, a feature absent in the C1 modem. This enhancement aims to better compete with Qualcomm's modems found in current iPhones.

Looking ahead, the rumored ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air is expected to be next in line to adopt the new C1 modem. This streamlined device is anticipated to replace the Plus model in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, set to launch around mid-September.
